Intro to Cannabis: Indica, Sativa, or Hybrid - Which is right for you?
For people who are new to the many wonders of cannabis culture, we’re sure that you have a lot of questions. From figuring out what a strain of cannabis is, to learning different ways to get high, to understanding all of the interesting jargon that exists within cannabis culture, it can be it can be highly overwhelming to navigate.
But honestly, there’s nothing to worry about! At Genesis Grow Corp., we see the value of being an informed cannabis consumer, and that’s the goal of our blog — to educate the masses about all things cannabis.
In today’s blog, we will be focusing on the different types of cannabis plants, how the high you get from each is different, and how you can decide which type of cannabis is best for you — Indica, Sativa, or a Hybrid. With that being said, let’s begin, shall we?
Indica - The Body High
A fun way people often describe indica varieties of cannabis is ‘in da couch’ ─ the reason being that they provide what is known as a “body high.” Hailing from the Middle East, cannabis indica is usually CBD heavy, providing the user with more CBD than THC when they consume it. These CBD dominant strains produce an extremely relaxing sensation for the user, which means that indica strains of cannabis are sought after to relax, reduce anxiety, manage pain, and tame nausea.
So, how will you know if indica is right for you? Well, the best way to figure out your cannabis preferences is to try some varieties and see what makes you feel the best. But, that being said, we’re happy to provide a frame of when an indica strain of cannabis is the way to go.
Due to the relaxing effects that one experiences when consuming cannabis indica, Genesis Grow Corp. recommends that you try it when you’re looking for some self-care. Kick back, relax, and enjoy a fat joint (or bowl or edible, whatever you prefer) to end your evening.
After partaking in your preferred consumption method, take note of how your body feels and you’ll surely understand why this type of cannabis has been affiliated with the body high.
Trying to figure out something to do? Watch a movie, read a favorite book, or throw on some headphones and listen to music! Like we said, indica strains are the way to go when you need to wind down, relax, and appreciate the beauty of the world.
Sativa - The Head High
Now that we’ve talked about indica, consider what it’s opposite might be like. Boom, there you go! That’s cannabis sativa! Okay, don’t worry, we’re gonna get into the details.
Sativa strains of cannabis boast high amounts of THC, and usually, little to no CBD. The resulting effect is an extremely stimulating ‘head high’ that has been associated with creativity and energy. That’s not to say that sativa strains aren’t relaxing. They are also great for alleviating anxiety and relaxing.
What’s important to understand is that with a sativa strain, you’re going to be mentally stimulated — your brain will be thinking, creating, and innovating. Sativa strains are usually what produce those mind-blowing realizations or connections that stoner comedy is so fond of (those ‘woooah duuude’ moments), simply because your brain is firing on all cylinders.
When you try a sativa strain of cannabis, take note of how your thinking is affected, and use it to your advantage! Need some ideas of what to do after consuming some sativa? Take a hike (just make sure you have a designated driver to get to and from where you’re going), write a story, doodle/draw, or just start a conversation with some friends and see where it goes!
Hybrids
Where cannabis indica and cannabis sativa both have their defining traits, hybrids do not. This is because, well, they’re hybrids! What this means is that hybrid cannabis strains aren’t things that you’ll find in nature, they’ve been designed by the masterminds of the cannabis industry.
Essentially, hybrids are engineered by mixing different pre-existing cannabis strains to produce a new strain that embodies the cannabis traits desired by the grower. Honestly, this is a great thing, especially for the picky cannabis aficionado, because it means that there are different strains on the market that have been produced to curate a certain high.
Let’s say that you love the relaxing body high of an indica but you’d also like the mentally stimulating experience provided by cannabis sativa. The solution would be to find an indica dominant hybrid that also has a considerable amount of THC. This idea works both ways and it opens up more possibilities for cannabis users to find a strain that embodies their preferred high.
In terms of recommending specific activities for a hybrid, we’ll leave that up to you. There exists so much variety under the umbrella of cannabis hybrids, that one hybrid may be better for a relaxing night in, but another might be so mentally stimulating that you’d want to clean the house!
